Walmart, Costco, Target, Home Depot and Other Retailers 2021 Results Summary



Walmart (WalMart) announced its second quarter fiscal year 2022 financial results. Total quarterly revenue was $141.048 billion, up 2.4% year-over-year; net income attributable to the company was $4.276 billion, down 34.0% year-over-year.

For the second quarter, U.S. same-store sales increased 5.2 percent year-over-year and e-commerce sales increased 6 percent year-over-year.

Sam's Club same-store sales increased 7.7 percent and its e-commerce sales increased 27 percent; membership revenue increased 12.2 percent and total membership reached a record high.

Walmart International net sales decreased 15.2 percent to $23 billion.



Costco Wholesale (Costco) reported results for its fiscal fourth quarter and full year ended August 29, 2021. Total revenue for the fourth quarter was $62.675 billion, compared to $53.383 billion in the prior year period.

Net sales for the quarter were $61.441 billion and membership fee revenue was $1.234 billion. Net income for the quarter was $1.67 billion, compared with $1.389 billion for the same period last year.

Total revenue for the fiscal year was $195.929 billion, compared to $166.761 billion in the previous year. Net income for the fiscal year was US$5,007 million, compared to US$4,002 million in the previous fiscal year.



Home Depot reported financial results for the second quarter of 2021, ended August 1. Quarterly net sales increased 8.1 percent to $41.118 billion, and net income increased 11.0 percent to $4.807 billion. Same-store sales increased 4.5 percent, with same-store sales in the U.S. up 3.4 percent.


Walgreens Boots Alliance (Walgreens) reported results for the third quarter of its fiscal year ended May 31, 2021. Quarterly sales were $34.03 billion, compared to $30.364 billion in the prior-year period. Net income for the quarter was $1,197 million, compared to a net loss of $1,708 million in the prior-year period.


The Kroger Co. reported results for its second fiscal quarter ended Aug. 14, 2021. Quarterly sales were $31.682 billion, compared to $30.489 billion in the same period last year. Net income for the quarter was $467 million, compared to $819 million in the prior-year period.



CVS Health (CVS Health) reported results for the second quarter of 2021. Total revenue for the quarter was $72.616 billion, compared to $65.341 billion in the prior-year period, an increase of 11.1%, and net income was $2.791 billion, compared to $2.986 billion in the prior-year period.



Lowe's (Lowe's) reported results for the second quarter of fiscal 2021, which ended July 30, 2021. Quarterly sales were $27.57 billion, up 1% year-over-year. Comparable sales declined 1.6 percent. Comparable sales in the U.S. home improvement business declined 2.2 percent year-over-year. Net income was $3.0 billion, up 7 percent year-over-year.



Target (Target) reported financial results for the second quarter of 2021. Total quarterly revenue was $25.160 billion, up 9.5 percent year-over-year, and net income was $1.817 billion, up 7.4 percent year-over-year. Comparable sales increased 8.9 percent in the second quarter, same-store sales increased 8.7 percent and digital comparable sales increased 10 percent, with more than 95 percent of the company's second quarter sales coming through stores.



Best Buy (Best Buy) reported financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2022, which ended July 31, 2021. Quarterly revenue was $11.849 billion, compared to $9.910 billion in the prior year quarter, an increase of 19.6%, and quarterly net income was $734 million, compared to $432 million in the prior year quarter, an increase of 69.9%.



U.S. discount retail chain Dollar General reported results for its second fiscal quarter ended July 30, 2021. Net sales for the quarter were $8.65 billion, compared with $8.684 billion in the same period a year earlier. Net income for the quarter was $637 million, compared to $788 million for the same period last year.



Dollar Tree reported results for its second fiscal quarter ended July 31, 2021. Net sales for the quarter were $6.34 billion, compared with $6.278 billion in the prior-year period. Net income for the quarter was $282 million, compared with $261 million in the prior-year period.



Macy's reported results for its second fiscal quarter ended July 31, 2021.

Net sales for the quarter were $5.647 billion, compared with $3.559 billion in the prior-year period. Net income for the quarter was $345 million, compared to a net loss of $431 million in the prior-year period.



Kohl's Department Stores (Kohl's) reported results for its second fiscal quarter ended July 31, 2021. Total revenue for the quarter was $4.447 billion, compared to $3.407 billion for the same period last year. Net income for the quarter was $382 million, compared to net income of $47 million in the prior year period.



Nordstrom, the U.S. upscale department store chain, reported results for its second fiscal quarter ended July 31, 2021. Net sales for the quarter were $3.565 billion, compared with $1.778 billion in the prior-year period. Net income for the quarter was $80 million, compared to a net loss of $255 million in the prior-year period.



In the second quarter, TJX's net sales increased 23 percent year-over-year to $12.1 billion and operating locations grew 20 percent.

Total profit increased 29%, or $336 million, to $1.5 billion compared to the same period in 2019, according to a company press release.



Carrefour Group (Carrefour) announced its results for the first half of 2021. Sales for the period were 38,319 million euros (approximately $44.9 billion), compared to 38,079 million euros in the same period of the previous year. Net profit for the period was 298 million euros, compared to a net loss of 25 million euros in the same period of the previous year.



Ahold Delhaize Group (Ahold Delhaize) reported results for the second quarter of 2021. The Group's quarterly net sales amounted to 18,645 million euros (approximately $21.9 billion), compared to 19,103 million euros in the same period of the previous year. Of this total, net sales in the United States were 11,115 million euros and net sales in Europe were 7,529 million euros. Quarterly net profit was 540 million euros, compared to 693 million euros in the same period of the previous year.



Auchan Holding SA (Auchan) announced its interim results for 2021. Revenues for the period were €15.11 billion (approximately $17.7 billion), compared to €15.545 billion a year earlier. EBITDA profit was €757 million, compared to €687 million a year earlier. Net loss for the period was €22 million, compared to a net profit of €106 million in the same period of the previous year. Of this, the net loss attributable to shareholders of the parent company followed you 24 million euros, compared to a net loss of 77 million euros in the same period of the previous year.



METRO (METRO AG) announced results for the third quarter of fiscal year 20/21 as of June 30. Quarterly sales of €6,247 million (approximately $7,320 million) compared to €5,568 million in the same period of the previous year. Net profit for the period was €512 million, compared to €391 million in the same period of the previous year.



CECONOMY AG, a consumer electronics retailer, announced results for the third quarter of fiscal year 20/21 ended June 30. Quarterly sales were 4,407 million euros (approximately $5.17 billion), compared with 4,107 million euros in the same period of the previous year. Net loss for the period was EUR 67 million, compared to a net loss of EUR 104 million in the same period of the previous year.
